OBEx to Egypt (2024)

Purpose

The OBEx to Egypt provides the delegates from Singapore-based companies with a better understanding of Egypt’s business and investment environment, especially the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). It aims to identify mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities and to foster working relations between Singapore-based companies and Egypt-based companies for market expansion and business operations.

Located along major international trade routes and nestled between Middle East and Africa, Egypt is a gateway for businesses to gain direct access to both regions. In the Arab world, Egypt ranks only after Saudi Arabia in terms of size of economy. In 2019, 22 African nations including Egypt, ratified the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), creating a free trade region among them.

With a population median age around 25, it has a youthful workforce that grew up in the digital age. Many industry sectors, especially the tech sector, will find that it is not dfficult to train and upskill their Gen Z employees for adopting various uses of technology at the workplace.

A new administrative and commercial capital where the seat of government has begun relocating to, 45km east of Cairo and halfway to the seaport city of Suez, is a smart city comprising 21 residential districts and 25 dedicated districts with stunning landmarks and skyscrapers that literally scale new heights as part of the Egypt Vision 2030 national agenda, befitting of the slogan: As Egypt accelerates towards the future.
